How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser hair removal is a reliable and highly effective method. A professional medical-grade machine with international certification, such as CE and FDA approval, should be used for this procedure if you want the best and safest results for your skin and health. We have chosen for our clients the most cutting-edge and modern laser machine, Clarity 2, which is safe and highly effective for all skin types. It successfully targets light and thin hair that other lasers could miss or not be able to remove, as well as stubborn hair, thanks to its dual-wavelength technology – Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm).

Laser Hair Removal: A Safe and Long-Lasting Solution

Unlike shaving or waxing hair removal service, laser hair removal offers a permanent reduction of unwanted hair. Traditional methods like razors or waxing can cause micro-cuts, skin irritation, and even lead to bacterial infections due to damage to the skin’s surface. These techniques, though familiar, are invasive to the skin barrier.

Body laser hair removal, on the other hand, is non-invasive, gentle, and much safer for the skin. They target the hair follicle without harming the surrounding tissue, helping to prevent common issues like razor burn, irritation, and ingrown hairs — making it a smarter, skin-friendly alternative.

Laser Hair Removal Process

Laser Hair Removal How it works

The hair removal process using laser technology works with light that is absorbed by melanin, directing energy straight to the pigment and targeting the hair follicle, leaving your skin untouched and protected. The laser converts this light energy into heat, creating a disruption in the hair follicle and causing hair to fall out afterward, usually during the next two weeks.

Laser light has a very specific target — melanin, the colour of the hair. That’s why laser hair removal is completely safe: the energy is absorbed only by the hair, not by the surrounding skin. The melanin in the hair shaft attracts the laser energy, which then penetrates and destroys the follicle permanently.

That’s why melanin — is essential for beauty hair removal to be effective.

Our Clarity II laser is one of the few devices capable of treating hairs with very low levels of melanin, meaning it can effectively target even light blond or fine vellus hairs.

However, laser hair removal doesn’t work on grey hair, as these hairs lack melanin and therefore cannot absorb the laser energy needed to destroy the follicle.

Hair Growth

Hair Growth

For optimal results and effectiveness, hairs should be in the anagen phase, which is the active growth stage when hair is still attached to the follicle and contains a lot of melanin. The thing is, normally, we catch only twenty percent of the hairs that are in this stage. To properly target every hair during its anagen phase, a course of sessions is required.

Typically, you should have five to eight sessions to achieve permanent hair reduction. Individual parameters like skin color, hair thickness, and hair growth cycle influence how many sessions are required. To efficiently target hairs during their natural growth cycle and guarantee that they are treated in the most sensitive period, sessions are often arranged every four to eight weeks.

Types of Lasers for Hair Removal — Why Laser Choice Matters

One of the most important factors in the success of body laser hair removal is choosing the right type of laser. In fact, up to 70% of the results depend on this choice — even before the skill of the specialist comes into play. That’s why we strongly recommend researching the laser technology first, and only then selecting a body laser & skin clinic or technician.

Not all lasers are created equal, and different lasers are designed for different skin tones and hair types. Here’s a brief overview of the most common types:

Alexandrite Laser (755 nm)

Highly effective for fair to light-medium skin types (Fitzpatrick I–IV). This laser has a shorter wavelength, which allows it to target melanin in the hair very precisely. It is known for fast results, less sessions are needed and strong performance.

For example, our Clarity II laser is designed to work on all hair types — including fine, light hairs that most lasers struggle to treat. Its ultra-short pulse duration makes it highly effective for lighter, thinner hairs, while its high peak power delivers fast and lasting results even on thick, coarse hair.

ND:YAG Laser (1064 nm)

The best choice for darker or tanned skin tones (Fitzpatrick V–VI). The ND:YAG laser penetrates deeper into the skin and bypasses melanin in the epidermis, making it safe for dark skin due to less likely to cause pigmentation issues. While it may require more sessions than Alexandrite for some hair types, it’s the safest option for deep skin tones.

Diode Laser (800–810 nm)

Can be used on all skin types, but with some limitations. While it’s a versatile and commonly used option, it often requires more sessions — usually around 12–14 treatments — and may not deliver truly permanent results for everyone. In many cases, hair is only removed temporarily, because the diode laser does not always destroy the follicle completely, allowing hair to regrow over time.

In summary, the best results come from matching the laser to your skin and hair type. Advanced technologies like Clarity II combine both Alexandrite and ND:YAG in one platform, offering tailored treatments for every skin tone –  safely and effectively.

We also strongly recommend choosing clinic lasers that use professional – grade laser machines from reputable manufacturers such as Cynosure – Lutronic, Deka, Candela, Alma and Lumenis.

Avoid uncertified Chinese laser machines – these devices are often unsafe, lack proper certification, and can lead to poor results, increased pain, and a higher number of sessions.

Choosing a trusted brand means choosing safety, efficiency, and the highest chance of permanent results.
